Aldi, the efficient German discount grocery chain, is reshaping the supermarket industry. The company has built a cult-like following, attracting customers that seek both rock-bottom prices and a highly efficient shopping experience.
With more than 1,800 stores in 35 states, Aldi is on pace to become the third-largest supermarket in the United States with 2,500 stores by the end of 2022. As part of Aldi’s aggressive push throughout Florida, the company selected GSD Contracting to build a new 20,000 square foot supermarket in Loxahatchee Groves, FL.
As part of this ground-up construction project, GSD was responsible for solving the following challenges:
- Loading Dock: Required a 5-inch thick slab with no reinforcement (rebar or steel rods in concrete).
- Sales Floor: The entire sales floor is a mud set. Partnered with special contractors from Germany to complete this unique part of the job.
- Walk-in Freezer: Broom finish- nonslip finish to the floor of the freezer
GSD Contracting’s parent company, Franjo Construction, has been the official construction team for Aldi in the Greater Pittsburgh Area. Franjo has built more than 100 Aldi stores in the past 12 years. Thanks to Franjo’s knowledge and experience with Aldi, GSD Contracting is now Building Trust with Aldi in South Florida.
