We Build Comfort
Building assisted living facilities is much like building hotels or country club communities, with unique differences. Emphasis is put on comfort, amenities and community activities, but there are always considerations for safety, security and an efficient, functional healthcare component. Design and construction considerations are as much about family and visitors as they are for the resident.
The trend in this category is toward Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC), where seniors may start in Independent Living with no nursing support, but move to assisted living or beyond as health dictates. Seniors can plan for their future becoming comfortable in a familiar, campus-like environment.
Emerald Park in Hollywood, Florida, became a CCRC community when we were contracted to add Assisted Living and Alzheimer’s & Memory Care units as additions to their existing Independent Living. Our client, Holiday Retirement, with more than 300 senior living communities in the US and Canada, insists on the best amenities: restaurant-style dining with customized menus, a chapel, library and movie theater, and beautiful grounds where the Florida sunshine can be enjoyed.
Nursing staff is on hand; strategically placed to meet the individual needs of residents, with stations incorporated within the overall design to avoid a clinical feel.
Sometimes we are contracted to add a unit to an existing senior living facility. That was the case at The Renaissance in Deerfield Beach, Florida, where we contracted to add an Alzheimer’s wing as an addition to Assisted Living facility we had constructed a few years prior. The value GSD brought to the table originally was rewarded by this subsequent project.
The Gardens Wellness Center is another type of assisted living, a drug and alcohol detoxification program that provides medical care and therapies necessary to lessen the effects of detoxification and give comfort to each individual. GSD Contracting renovated the campus-like buildings to house the 48-bed residential treatment facility.
Because a quiet, peaceful environment is key in these facilities, it was important that measures be taken to reduce noise and cause the least disruption to residents as possible. Many projects in different industries have required this of us, our client’s needs, to build quickly and quietly, with an eye on security have been met time and again across industries.
